So Many Ideas

Last week had many challenges, however they brought me closer to understanding my more long term goals for this school year and life. Throughout the week, I was constantly struck with a question: What is my Original Work Project going to be? By compiling my research and evaluating my true purpose of why I am studying pediatric surgery, I was ultimately able to create a blossoming idea that has me excited with its potential. Needless to say, picking my original work idea was in no way an easy task. I had so many ideas I wanted to explore- and I hope I do so in the future- but the real difficulty was deciding what to dive into first. I have almost finalized my proposal and am excited to begin developing the project. I have also reached out to many professionals who are willing to spend some of their valuable time to speak with me. Although I am nervous, it excites me to be able to ask specific questions to those in the field.
This week I look forward to beginning on the foundation of my original work. I will do so by answering some essential questions: Why might neonatal surgery be chosen over a fetal treatment approach? Why might fetal surgery be chosen over a neonatal treatment approach? What factors contribute to the success of fetal surgery? What requirements must the fetus and mother meet to be eligible for fetal surgery? To answer such questions, not only will I need to do extensive research, but I will need to ask professionals these questions. Overall, last week has only added to my enthusiasm for what is to come.
