Last week, I took the time to reflect on my previous discussions with Dr. Buchmiller and the research I did following our conversations. I wrote up an assessment of our discussions and truly reflected on the last semester. Rather than focusing on physical progress and my original work project, I reflected on the research and the information I had learned about. I am unsure where I want to take my final product this semester and am still working on developing my ideas and exploring what direction I want to head. One of my goals, however, is to create something that could be used and may benefit Dr. Buchmiller with common challenges she faces in her line of work.

Just this afternoon, I had the opportunity to speak with her and was exposed to so many ideas and possibilities. I aim to explore the possibility of creating a tool that would help facilitate prenatal consultations and prepare individuals for difficult conversations of maternal-fetal care. Dr. Buchmiller’s guidance and time are truly to thank for such an idea. I plan to answer some questions in the following weeks: How have similar tools been used in other fields of medicine? What would be important to consider when creating such a worksheet? Would this be something I want to continue to pursue for the semester? While much of my research from my ethics paper last semester will be useful in answering some of these questions, I am excited to see what else I can learn.
